La Spiga d'Oro/Soppalco
Town: Foiano della Chiana
La Spiga d’Oro is just 20 km from Cortona, not far from Foiana della Chiana, between Siena (45km) and Arezzo (30km), an area and landscape which readers of the books of Frances Mayes (e.g. Under the Tuscan Sun) will be familiar with. Here is a chance to experience it for real.
The house is surrounded by a small park. To the side of the house is a swimming pool ( 5 m x 10 m) and a jacuzzi, (also enjoyable on cooler days). For small children is a playground, and in front of the house shaded seating areas under old trees and a barbecue.
The house is divided into 3 lovingly restored apartments, wooden beams and antique tuscan furniture add to the atmosphere. Each has a TV (italian channels only). The windows have fly screens. A baby bath, childs bed and highchair can be provided for free. There is a common utility room with washing-machine, and iron.
The parents of the owners live in the house but with a separate entrance for privacy and can sell fresh eggs, vegetables, honey, wine and olive oil.
Il Soppalco is particularly enticingly laid out. Entering into the living room with dining-table and kitchen area. A staircase leads up to a gallery, and a double bedroom, then an open room on the gallery also serves as a double bedroom. Up here is also a TV corner with sofa and armchair. There is a bathroom with shower. The appartment has airconditioning installed. Also the apartment has airco.
