Azienda Colognole with Grappolo
Town: Rufina
Azienda Colognole - La Fattoria An old villa from the 17th century, most of which was restored in the 19th century. In the middle of a small fortified area inhabited by several families. On the front of the villa is a garden with spring in the middle, a grill area and an avenue of ancient 'stone-oaks'. In 1996 the villa was renovated and modernised but with traditional furniture, terracotta floors and beamed ceilings. The appartments Grappolo and Acino are accessed through the wide entrance-hall with frescos from the 19th century. Vinacciolo, on the upper floor, is reached through a stone staircase. From which there are wonderful views over the Sieve valley. The pool with similarly stunning views, is just a few steps from the villa, and has changing rooms with showers screened by a hedge and stone wall.
The TV in the entrance hall and washing machine in the cellar are for the use of all 3 appartments.
Grappolo 2 double bedrooms, a living room with double sofabed, and corner kitchen, a bathroom with tub and a shower.
Azienda Colognole This old estate has been in the family Grafen Spalletti more than 5 generations. Some old farmhouses on the estate have been renovated for guests, taking special care to retain the traditional style and elegance. This is an ideal base for culture and art tours as Florence is just 30km.
The nearby Apennin range gives the countryside an untouched feel, and the height and regular breeze in the summer make even the hottest days bearable.
There are many views of the the Sieve Valley, and beyond to the gentle hills covered in vineyards, olive groves and fields of wheat and sunflowers, oak woods and avenues of cypress.
The guests are well looked after by Matteo and Lucilla, who offer many extras including a free 2 hour tour of the estate, stately home and wine cellar. A fridge service is offered, so guests can order what they want in advance. There is a small, very nice, restaurant where an evening meal is offered for 18 Euros on pre-ordering, (very practical on the day of arrival). Also picnic baskets can be ordered. Tours of Florence in a minibus can be arranged. The estate has four private lakes and a river, where guests can fish, and on agreement with the authorities hunting is possible.
Please note, this is a working estate and vineyard. Whilst this gives the guests the opportunity to lend a hand during grape and olive harvesting it does mean that machines are used which can create a noise.
Distances to major towns are: Florence is 32 km, Siena 95 km, San Gimignano 80 km, Pisa 125 km, Luca 115 km.

It is to them Florence owes its position amongst the foremost art cities of the world. The countryside around Florence is equally famous for inspiring the artists.
