Grosseto, "Maremma" of Tuscany

The province of Grosseto (abbreviated GR) is the southernmost of the ten provinces of the Italian region of Tuscany. Capital is the city of Grosseto. The county measures 4030 km ² and has 140,000 inhabitants, of which about half live in the capital.
To the Tyrrhenian Sea border province of Grosseto consists of gently rolling Maremma region (also a national park) where the capital is the center, and an eastern, more hilly area. Until the province are also some islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, namely Formiche di Grosseto, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri, and the Monte Argentario peninsula. The province is crossed by the 160 kilometer long river Ombrone.
Grosseto provinces adjacent to the Tuscan Pisa, Livorno, Siena and Viterbo province belonging to the Lazio region.
Other important places in the province are Follonica, Orbetello, Massa Marittima and Pitigliano.

Grosseto is a town in the Italian region of Tuscany, about 150 kilometer northwest of Rome. It is also the capital of the province.
Grosseto has about 80,000 inhabitants and is the heart of the Maremma region. The city is located 12 km from the Tyrrhenian coast. The city, which in 1138 became bishop seat and then developed into the heart of the Maremma, has a hexagonal walled city center. The city also houses an archaeological museum, with many finds of Etruscan origin.

MASSA MARITTIMA

The board of Grosseto took refuge here at the peak of the malaria epidemic because the upper village wanted to escape the mosquitoes. Scansano in itself is very beautiful and is also a good base for exploring the region.

CASTIGLIONE DELLA PESCAIA

A beautiful coastal town where tourism is very noticeable presence. Yet there is the historical center in a pleasant atmosphere. Lovers of fresh fish? Every day the fishermen sailing from here and bring at the end of the afternoon everything fresh to this country you can buy fresh.

PITIGLIANO

If you visit the Maremma, Pitigliano sure you can not skip. The village has a fascinating cityscape: it seems that the houses in the yellow-red volcanic tuff are grown. At first sight it is difficult to see whether a window of a building or go to one of the many burial chambers in the rocks. The latter must now, according to their location-as storage for grain or wine.

Pitigliano The surface looks like a medieval dream city. Winding streets, small sheltered passages, sixteenth-century aqueduct and a palace, ... SATURNIA

Spontaneously from the earth, hot sulfur springs. For people with symptoms such as Rheumatism, exceem often has a healing effect. It really does not smell fresh but it is delicious.

MONTE AMIATA

The Monte Amiata with its 1738 meter is the third highest mountain and only volcano in Tuscany. The many forts there are the silent witnesses of the Middle Ages. The fascinating nature with all its animals you can discover the best in the Parco del Monte Amiata Faunistico. The guide walks through the beautiful surroundings, where your animals like foxes, badgers, wild boars, hares, stone martens and weasels may encounter in their natural environment. We live about 120 species of wild animals in this park, dogs are not allowed.

Definitely worth a visit is the Monastery of San Salvatore. The villages of Castel del Piano, Arcidosso, Montegiovi and Santa Fiora are very nice. The Monte Amiata and the surrounding beauties you can easily engage a whole day!
